With the support of Emporiki Bank and the participation of
its summer camp (“Happy Village”) team of pedagogues, an innovative
environmental action organised by the 1st Directorate of Primary Education of
Athens (Environmental Education Office) and based on “The Immigration of living
organisms” educational program by the “Friends of Goulandris Natural History
Museum” Association has been completed successfully.
This multidimensional action took place with the
participation of 300 students of 5th and 6th grade classes from ten Primary
Schools of Athens, in the framework of the current school year annual
environmental program. The objective was to raise awareness of the students
about the wider meaning of “immigration”.
In a particularly interesting and interactive way, all
students were asked in the first place to observe the struggle for survival, as
it is expressed through the migration of several living organisms within the
natural environment and connect it with the phenomenon of the populations´
immigration, seeking for better living conditions within the social
environment. On March 9th, a special closing event took place at Technopolis of
Athens, which marked the end of this action and gave the students the
opportunity to present, with the support of their teachers, excellent artistic
creations, inspired by the meaning of immigration.
For the organisation and the development of this
action, many parties collaborated, such as the “Happy Village” summer camp
pedagogical team, the Environmental Education Office of the 1st Directorate of
Primary Education of Athens and the teachers of the ten Primary Schools of
Athens.
Emporiki Bank undertook the overall support of this project,
offering also to the ten Primary Schools´ libraries a series of environmental
books for children as well as the "Greek Wetlands" publication of Emporiki
Bank.
